If you think you know what Hebrew School is...Think again!
Curriculum
Hebrew Program:
The Hebrew Program is based on the “Shalom U'vrachah” series put out by Behrman House Publishing. This curriculum focuses on learning to read fluently, and studying the meaning of Prayers through key words in Hebrew and discussion topics. Students will study Hebrew language and prayer in a one-on-one setting with their own Big Brother/Sister. These tutors all have strong Hebrew language backgrounds as well as experience working with children. This personal tutoring will allow for every JYC student to have his or her individual learning needs met.

JYC Juniors:
Our Juniors class consists of kindergarten and first grade students. In the course of these two years, Students will become familiar with the stories of the Torah, Jewish holidays, and the Jewish life cycle as well as letters from the Hebrew Alef-Bet. Learning will take place through hands-on activities involving art, drama, music and movement.

2nd – 6th Grades:
In the course of these grades, students will study the Holidays, Prayers, the Biblical narrative and its implications for our lives, an overview of Jewish history, Jewish ethics, Israel and institutions of the Jewish community.  Each grade will have an assigned classroom teacher, small class sizes help to insure that every child gets the attention required.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program :
Students who are “coming of age” will attend a two hour class each Sunday that will make use of lectures, guided study, and multi-media presentations. TIn addition, there will be special guest speakers, programs, and community activism projects, and parents will also spend time preparing for this milestone with their children. Tutoring for Bar or Bat Mitzvah Torah portions or speeches will be available to interested families, and JYC will help each family to find the ceremony that will make the Bar or Bat Mitzvah most meaningful to them.
